Amsoil Improves Monte Carlo Engine Performance

Brady Smith had a trying year in 2005. The late model driver took his Chevy on the open road last summer, feeling all the bumps in the road that an open schedule can provide a young driver. But Smith took part in a number of high profile events, such as the WISSOTA 100 and the North-South Shootout. He also found that his switch to AMSOIL last year was a big reason for his 12 top-five finishes.
Running on the country’s premier dirt tracks can put even the most finely tuned car through the ringer. Smith, who works behind the wheel of a Monte Carlo, pushes between 800 and 850 horsepower in either his 358 cu. inch or 430 cu. inch engine. When his Hoosier tires hit the dusty tracks in Oklahoma or the slick, claypacked circuits in the upper Midwest, Smith has no doubts that his car is well protected since he switched.
“We are running between 8,000 and 9,000 RPM on our motor during race nights,” says Smith. “Our oil temperatures were 20 to 30 degrees hotter when we were running another company’s synthetic blend in 2004. Last year, our oil temperatures were around the 230-240 degree range. Our water temps even dropped about 15 degrees after switching over to Series 2000 20W-50 Racing Oil (TRO).”
Smith also relies heavily on Super Shift Racing Transmission Fluid (ART) for his transmission and SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 Gear Lube (SVG) for the car’s rear end.
“We didn’t have a single tranny-related failure last year,” says Smith. “That helped us so much during race nights because we didn’t have to worry about it. The SEVERE GEAR is easily the best product on the market. It was so much easier to change the gears in the rear ends between races. In a matter of five minutes we could swap out the gears because the oil temps stayed lower when they were running. We didn't have to wait a long time for the gears to cool down before we could touch them.”
Smith is already racing his 2006 schedule. He will focus on winning both the season points championship and the rookie of the year award in the NARA Late Model division.
