DRP Dipping Oil Rust Preventative
AMSOIL Dipping Rust Preventative (DRP) is an oil/solvent based water deplacing rust preventative. Its barium-free, non-emulsified, alkali-resistant formulation is particularly effective at deplacing water from metal parts after machining or alkali cleaning. AMSOIL DRP provides outstanding rust preventative performance by providing a protective non-staining film after solvent evaporation.
AMSOIL DRP can be applied by any means including spray, brush, dip or automatic applicator system. DRP has passed the severe requirements of the ASTM D-665A (fresh water), D-665B (synthetic seawater) and D-1748 (humidity cabinet) rust tests. These tests have demonstrated that DRP provides excellent rust protection in the harshest environments.
DRP also provides moderate lubricating qualities where it may be desirable. When applied, DRP will leave a thin film residue on the surfaces to protect the metal, yet it will notgum up or dry off the surfaces. DRP has a rust protection service life of over six months when parts are subject to the open atmosphere and a service life of several years when the parts are wrapped or sealed in plastic and not subject to environmental elements.
DRP is excellent for use on sheet steel, galvanized steel, aluminum (to help prevent white oxide corrosion), hand tools, packaged parts or anywhere rust protection is desired.
Safety Summary
DRP is non-toxic and is easily handled. However, as with any chemical product, extended skin exposure can lead to redness, irritations, rash, itching, etc. It is recommended that eye protection and rubber gloves be used when handling this product.
Performance Benefits
- Outstanding wetting ability
- Protects against rust and corrosion of all metal surfaces
- Thin film rust protection
- Salt water, fresh water and humidity cabinet tested
- Easily applied
Summary of Rust Test Methods
Water and synthetic seawater — A mixture of 300 ml of the oil under test is stirred with 30 ml of distilled water or synthetic sea water, as required, at a temperature of 60°C (140°F) with a cylindrical steel specimen completely immersed therein. It is customary to run the test for 24 hours; however, the test period may, at the discretion of the contracting parties, be for a shorter or longer period. The specimen is observed for signs of rusting, and if desired, degree of rusting.
Humidity cabinet — Steel panels are prepared to a prescribed surface finish, dipped in the test oil, allowed to drain and then suspended in a humidity cabinet at 48.9 ± °C (120°F) for a specified number of hours. The oil fails or passes the test according to the size and number of rust dots on the test surfaces of the panels.
